Kiwi sport | Swimming

This week for kiwi sport we went to the YMCA lagoon pools to learn how to swim. We normally have Cameron as our swimming instructor but he was sick so we had Helen for our swimming instructor. When we sat down in the pool Helen told us to hop in the pool safely and get a swimming board. After we got a swimming board we got told what to do first with the board. Then we talked about the moves that we had to think of well we were gone and it was like a sequence.

The first thing we did was follow Helen's sequence which was a mushroom, then we had turn our body into a T, then we had to do 4 arm strokes, then we had to rotate onto our backs and do sculling to the end of the other platform. After we did that we had to create our own sequence, My sequence was sculling on my back which turned to  arm stroke which turned into a mushroom to a Tee and then free style to the end of the platform.

After that we had to put our boards away and listen to Helen, Helen said we had to swim to the end of the pool with whatever swimming style that we learnt this term and look at the clock with out touching the ground and treat the water for half a second which is thirty (30) seconds and then sim back to the other platform how ever we wanted. First was Me, then it was Victoria, then it was Matthew and then it was Giovanni. When we finished our things we high five Helen then got out of the pool safely then (Got change) went back to school.

Kiwi Sport

This week for kiwi sport we went to the YMCA lagoon pools to learn swimming. We normally have Cameron as our swimming instructor but he was sick so we got Helen for our swimming instructor. When we got to Helen she called out the roll and then talk to us about what we have been learning through the past weeks that we have been going swimming. We talked about things we need when going on boats, thing we need to do when stuck in a rip and things we need to do when going to a beach or river. We also talked about hyperthermia and hypothermia and what you need to do when someone has it or you have it.

After we finished talking, We practice getting into the pool safely and out of the pool safely and the way you did this was both your hands on the side of your hips then turn around and slowly slip in the water. The second thing we did was a rocket ship turning into arm stoke and the way we did this was put or hands in the air with them connecting then kick off the platform or wall, then we had to swing our arms in a circle and then put our head on one of the arms that were not circling to breath. The third thing we did was free style which is exactly like arm strokes but you have to do three arm strokes not one.

The nest thing we did was sculling in sculling you have to put your thumbs up and then push against the water we had to do feet first because we were acting like we were in a river. The next thing we did was we had to choose 4 moves from the moves that we learnt this term and when chose them you would have to go do your moves till the platform on the other side. The next thing we did was Helen would pick 4 things and we would have to do it like the one before but she chose. When we finished our things we high five Helen then got out of the pool safely then (Got change) went back to school.

YMCA lagoon pools

This week for kiwi sport we went to the YMCA lagoon pools. We learnt about hypothermia and hyperthermia. I learnt that hypothermia is when your body temperature is bellow standard and your lips start going pale, your legs start wobbling, you start talking funny and your teeth start chattering. I also learnt that hyperthermia is when your body temperature is going above standard. If you ever catch someone with hypothermia put them in the shower the water has to go slowly to hot because your body doesn't react well when the water changes from cold to hot or hot to cold. Also if you ever discover anyone with hyperthemia send them to the hospital as quickly as you can because they can did. After we finished talking about hypothermia and hyperthermia we went straight into our lessons, My teacher this week was Cameron. We learnt how to use our thumbs so our heads don't go underwater. We learnt how to dolphin dive so when you go to a beach that has lots of tall rocks around you can dolphin dive through or off those. We learnt how to   use our feet first when ever we are at a river because you rather you feet bones broken then your head bones broken. At the end of the lesson we go to do what ever style we wanted so i did free style.

Swimming

LI: Learning how to swim.
LI: Learning Water safety.

This week for kiwi sport we went to YMCA lagoon pools to practice our swimming. We learnt how to get into the pool safely, free style, breath stroke, star fish and back stroke.

My coaches name was Cameron, He would show us how to do a swimming task and then we would copy him. The guy I started with was James, He told us to do a breath stroke. After we all did a breath stroke James sent all the people he thought was good to level three.

When we got to Cameron, Cameron told all of us to stand on a plat form that felt like a trampoline. He would demon strait the swimming task and then he would tell us to do the exact same thing but when we slow down we have to use our legs to kick or our arms to glide.

The first swimming task we did was getting into the pool safely, In this swimming task we had to put our to hands on the side of the pool and jump in. The second swimming task we did was star fish, In this swimming task we had to bend our knees and kick back, when we got half way Cameron would push our feet to go further. The third thing we did was back stroke, In this swimming task we had to kick off the black plat form to get a good glide. The fourth thing we did was breath stroke, In this swimming task we had to do wind meals with our arms. The last thing we did was free style, In this swimming task we had to do wind meals and do how many breaths we wanted. After we learnt these he told us to go get changed, Mr Ogilvie was teasing the girls because we came last. We hoped strait on the bus and came back to school.
