Walls

This week for inquiry we have been researching and finding information about different types o of defending walls that you use in war. We had to research about four different types of walls which were the sand, stone wall, the rammed earth wall, the stone wall and the palisade wall. We had to get into a group of four and research about these different types of walls. In my group there was Farzana, me , Sakina and Victoria. We decided to all research on one each. Farzana researched about the sand and stone wall, Victoria researched about the rammed earth wall, I researched about the stone wall and Sakina researched about the palisade. After that we had to go and show our work to Mr Wong, but before we showed our work to Mr Wong we had to decide which one we were going to build,m we had to think about it because the only materials we could use was sand rocks toothpicks and a little bit of water.

The next thing we did was build our wall. All the groups had to build a castle wall and then pick there own one for the next one. We picked a palisade because it was a interesting topic to learn about. After we finished building our walls we had to use the catapult that Mr Wong had built using pencils and elastic bands to try bust the castle down. Mr Wong went write down through the groups. Our one succeeded when he had fired at the toothpicks and then after he went around everyone's first one that they built and then started at the start and went around again, the second one of ours succeeded so that was good and then we packed up and put the sand back into the sand pit.

Rifles

This week for inquiry we have been learning about rifles. rifles are a type of technology used during war. We got to pick our topic so we picked rifles. The reason we chose this technology is because we thought it was an interesting topic to learn about and also because we could find lots of information on one site.

This week for our inquiry must do we had to create a DLO explaining what our technology was. In our slide we had to 5 slide which included the title, the technology we chose, the historical example, the purpose of a rifle and the types of rifles. Me, Victoria, Sakina and Farzana worked on a slide each. I worked on our technology, Victoria worked on firearms historical examples, Sakina worked on rifles and purpose and Farzana types of rifle actions. In my slide, I added to gifs to show how rifles were used in war. In Victoria's slide she included sites to prove where she got her information. In Sakina's
slide she added information about how far the guns can shoot and on Farzana slide she included all the action rifles. After we created our presentation we had to present it in front all the inquiry groups.

Bows and arrows

This week for inquiry we had to make a google slide explaining the technology we chose. We had the choice of  bow and arrows, wall gates or castle. We chose the technology of bows and arrows. The reason we chose this technology because it was a great source of deference and a great source of attacking.

The first slide we had was the title and our name, The second slide we had was us explaining what our technology was, the third slide we had was us explaining  what bows and arrows were and the two historical examples, the fourth slide we had was us explaining what archers were and how strong an archer had to be to carry this source of power, The fifth slide we had was the types of bows and arrows which is the compound bow, the re curve bow, the cross bow, and the long bow and the sixth slide we created had the video with us explaining what what the video was about.

After we created our slide we had to present it, We were the second group to present our slide because nobody else was gonna go up and share there work. We all read a slide each, I read the second slide, Victoria read the third slide, Sakina read the fourth slide and Farzana read the fifth and sixth slide. Mr Wong said he was very impressed with our slide because didn't have a lot of extra information and we didn't read from the slides, we read from our notes that we wrote in the note section

Trebuchet

This week for inquiry we have been learning about war things. We had to create a DLO explaining the technology we chose. We chose a trebuchet which are  type of catapult. We had to write down what our technology was, the 1st historical example and the 2nd historical example. After we created our DLO we had to present it to the class.

The presentation was exciting, We had to include everyone in our group but one was filming the manaakalani festival video so three of us presented. We had to talk about our technology without reading from the T.V. The things we needed to work on was talking louder. We were the first group to go up. We were the only group who didn't look at the T.V and read from it. Our whole team participated in this presentation. Mrs Michelle thought that the teams that included their whole team were the best.

After we presented our work we played a game called village invaders. In this game we had to create our own technology to help invade the village. The technology could only shoot from the position it is in. It was me and Sakina vs Farzana, Fazana was the invader, She won but didn't complete her task bye getting the treasure.

Ramparts | War

This week for inquiry we have been learning about fortification. We started off playing a game and in the game was a piece of paper with even squares in it. In this game there would be defenders and attackers. The attackers would have to try and get the gold off the defenders and the defenders had to keep the treasure safe. The next game we played was like the last one except there was a river and a bridge. In this game we would have to defend the gold like the last game. It was easier for the defenders because three could line up in front of the bridge and one attacker could only get on the bridge. We learnt that fortification is a type of technology that helped people in warfare. This week we had to make a DLO explaining either a trench, hill fort or ramparts. We chose ramparts because is was the hardest one and I wanted to create a goal. In our DLO we had to have 5 slides. In our 5 slides we had the title, the technology we used and example, the question of what is a rampart with the answer, the things that connect to a rampart and the purpose of a rampart.

Bridges

LI: To find and research 5-10 bridges.
This week for Inquiry we have been learning about national and international bridges. We had to go on a google maps and create a new folder that we could write in. Then we had to find the five bridges from last week to make it easier. We had to find information about the bridges. After we had put the five bridges we did last week in we had to find five national or international bridges. After we did that we had to find the Year the bridges were built, The Length, Height and Width of the bridges. The cost that the bridges were and the materiel used on the bridges. In my slide and google map I decided to do 10 bridges to make my work more interesting.

Panmure bridge

LI: To learn about old and new structures that are the same.

This week for Inquiry we have been learning about Panmure bridge from 1865 till now. This week for Inquiry we had to make a copy of the google slide that Mr Wong and Mr Ogilvie made. On this google slide we had to find 5 or 6 photos from the LS1 class site. After we found the photos we had to write a statement about why these photos interest us. After we did that we had to write from the first photo we got to the last photo we got, The way i meant that was we had to get the photo that was the oldest photo like 1865 and then we had to get a photo that was the latest photo we had like 2016. After we did that we had to type up what we think the next Panmure bridge would look like. The last thing we had to do was write what we think the panmure bridge helped people from then and now.

Quiz Show

LI. This term for inquiry we learnt about the Circulatory system, the respiratory system, the Nervous system and the digestive system. We spent nine weeks learning about all these system. When it came to the 10th week we did a challenge day and it was all the groups vs each other. The groups were The quizzers, The Living inquiry learners, The class clown crushers, the cobras, the quiz boys, the living girls, The wolves, The sculpture crushers and the boogers. The winner for the quiz game was the wolves.

For the start of the quiz we did drawing. We drew 6 things but some people had to go to times because there whole group was not there. One of the drawing was stomach esophagus and liver. Than we did sculpting, Sculpting was a bit hard because the things that Mr Wong gave out was hard to sculpt. After the sculpting we did the main part of the quiz, The quiz time. When Mr Wong was asking the question he asked a question that a group brought and that group forgot there answer. After we finish we looked at the scores and the wolves on

Matariki

This week for inquiry LS1 and LS2 collaborated and formed a group of four. My group was Nyjah, Chavda, Sakina and Me. In my group we made a google slides asking the questions of… What happens of matariki.... When does matariki happen and where could you find matariki. After we asked the questions and answered them we created around the questions to give people ideas of how matariki works.
I learnt that some people believe that there is 9 stars and some people believe that there is seven stars. I also learnt that there is a song for the names of the matariki sisters called Matariki waiata. When I was reading a text I found out that matariki changes every year skippy 5 days but going down.

Inquiry tasks | Compulsory tasks

This week for inquiry we had our compulsory tasks and our elective tasks. For our compulsory tasks we had Explanation, Fish bone, Poetry/prose and Sculpture. For our explanation we had to write about how an organism respires. For our fish bone we had to draw a fish bone organizer showing the parts and functions of the respiratory and the circulatory systems. For our poetry/prose we had to show how the circulatory system works by writing either a poem, a narrative or imaginative recount and for our sculpture task we had to create a labelled sculpture of one of the parts of the respiratory/circulatory system in humans. For our elective tasks we had the Double Sequence Chart, Picture / Poster, Slide presentation, Song Lyrics, Venn Diagram video and word ring. In the double sequence chart we had to draw a double sequence chart and explain how an organism respires. In the Picture / Poster we had to draw a picture or poster showing the parts of the respiratory / circulatory system in humans or another animal but the task must be hand drawn. In the slide presentation we had to make a slide showing what the parts of the respiratory / circulatory system does. For our song lyrics we had to write a vocabulary list for all of the words used in the selected song. In the vein diagram we had to compare the parts of a human and another organism that lets them respire. For the video we had to make a video explaining what each part of a human respiratory / circulatory system does and in our word ring we had to Create a concentric word ring of words for the respiratory / circulatory system. My group really enjoyed this and will be doing it again next week
